Fulfillment that grows with merchants
Merchants are running more sophisticated operations than ever. They ship from multiple locations, offer flexible delivery methods, sell across markets, and run complex shipping and pricing logic. Most of all, they expect checkout to reflect how fulfillment actually works.
Shopify is releasing the next wave of fulfillment capabilities to meet that reality: market-driven shipping, ship and pickup in one order, and default split shipping for qualified checkouts. Some are already live or in feature preview; others roll out in phases starting now, with full rollout completing July 1, 2027.These upgrades simplify fulfillment on Shopify at any scale, keeping checkout aligned with how orders actually ship and deliver. Buyers see clearer shipping prices at checkout, delivery expectations they can trust, and a smoother path to purchase, which means fewer abandoned carts and higher conversion.
Merchants succeed when partners evolve with us. Test and update your apps before merchant rollouts accelerate, so your apps remain essential as these capabilities become default.
You will want to read this closely if you build or maintain apps that:
- Read or write delivery profiles
- Integrate with markets or shipping rate logic
- Touch delivery or fulfillment information
- Fulfill, route, notify on, or edit orders and fulfillment workflows
- Serve multi-location, or omnichannel merchants
What’s coming: releases and milestones to track
Many apps were built around a straightforward fulfillment pattern: one order, one fulfillment. That pattern still exists, but it is no longer the whole picture as orders can produce multiple fulfillments, split by location, shipping rate, delivery promise, or delivery method. Similarly, shipping rates vary based on cart contents or location, and rates have not always combined the way merchants intended. Shipping configuration is now moving to a market-based model, and pricing stays predictable when cart, location, and market intersect at checkout.
Market-driven shipping
Market-driven shipping is an upgrade to how merchants configure shipping in Shopify. It moves shipping options into Markets, so merchants can manage where they sell and how they ship from the same place in Shopify admin.
This change gives merchants a clearer shipping setup, better support for different buyer contexts, and more predictable rate behavior at checkout. Merchants can customize shipping for regional markets, B2B customer locations, and POS markets. They can also create shipping options that charge a single flat rate across products and locations, instead of summing rates at checkout.
Action required: Update your app if it reads, creates, or modifies merchant delivery profiles. Apps that only read or update app-owned profiles do not need changes.
Timeline:
- July 1, 2026: Feature preview available for developers to test apps
- October 1, 2026: Merchant opt-in available
- October 1, 2026 - July 1, 2027: Merchants are automatically moved to market-driven shipping as your app becomes compatible
- July 1, 2027: Market-driven shipping is on for all shops

Ship and pickup in one order
Merchants on Shopify Plus and Enterprise plans can offer a single checkout where customers choose both shipping and store pickup in the same order. There are no new APIs, but the change affects how delivery and fulfillment information flows through checkout.
Action required: If your apps, workflows, or integrations touch delivery, fulfillment, or order logic, test thoroughly with this feature enabled. Use the testing guide to identify flags and update as needed.
Timeline:
- May 19, 2026: Feature preview for developers
- June 17, 2026: Merchant opt-in through Test Drive
- October 12, 2026: Cart API support expands ship and pickup beyond checkout. Pickup locations with partial availability will be selectable with options to split the unavailable items into “shipping”
-
July 1, 2027: Ship and pickup in one order is on for all eligible plus shops

Split shipping for qualified checkouts
Our vision is simple: split shipping should "just work" based on how merchants configure shipping settings. We are phasing out the split shipping setting, and checkout will show the exact number of expected shipments based on order routing logic.
Split shipping calculates the number of expected packages based on location, timing, and rate. Today, products in separate profiles (for example, free gifts) can produce extra expected shipments at checkout, even when merchants ship one box.
Market-driven shipping addresses this issue with a feature called rate consolidation. When more than one shipping rate applies to the same order, checkout applies the right combined shipping price instead of adding rates together or showing extra shipments the merchant did not intend.
Action required: As with ship and pickup, test any apps, workflows, or integrations that touch delivery, fulfillment, or order logic. Pay special attention if you are a fulfillment, 3PL, OMS, or ERP integration that still operates at order level instead of fulfillment order level.
Timeline:
- August 2026 through July 1, 2027: Phased rollout by merchant risk cohort; low-risk shops first. Split shipping and market-driven shipping use the same cohort definitions and follow the same schedule.
- July 1, 2027: Split shipping is the default for qualified checkouts
The schedule
We are rolling these capabilities out in phases so merchants and partners have time to test and upgrade. July 1, 2027 is when the transition completes and these capabilities become the only path for qualified merchants. That date is the finish line. Your readiness window is now.
Now through September 2026
- Ship and pickup: Dev preview and merchant Test Drive
-
Market-driven shipping: Dev preview for partner
October 1, 2026
- Market-driven shipping merchant opt-in opens and new shops are automatically opted in.
- Aim to upgrade and confirm compatibility before October 1, 2026, before merchants hit peak holiday fulfillment volumes, starting with Black Friday. All apps must be compatible by July 1, 2027
- New installs will see a warning starting October 1, 2026 if your app is not compatible with market-driven shipping or ship and pickup.
- Merchants who enable ship and pickup in one order in test drive or opt-in to market-driven shipping will hit breakage.
July 1, 2027: Default experience for all qualified merchants. No opt-out.
Help us get the partner ecosystem ready
Merchants are entering a phase where fulfillment on Shopify gets simpler to run at scale, even when the business itself is complex. Partners who show up early help merchants launch pickup and shipping without checkout friction, expand into new markets without rate logic breaking down, and fulfill with confidence.
Keeping your apps compatible is how you stay indispensable to merchants as these capabilities become default.
